Balgowlah Residence by B.E Architecture featuring the Tura collection

The Balgowlah Residence marks a significant chapter in B.E Architecture’s growing Sydney portfolio. As the first project led by their Byron Bay office, it represents a confluence of geographic breadth, architectural ambition, and deeply responsive design.

Carved into a steep escarpment overlooking one of Sydney Harbour’s most iconic beaches, the multi-level home is both commanding and considered. The original site—once accessed only by a narrow ‘goat track’—was carefully excavated to create an expansive terrace, transforming vertical challenge into horizontal opportunity. From this elevated vantage point, a generous garden and pool now frame uninterrupted harbour views, redefining the relationship between built form and landscape.

Within, the residence is a masterclass in spatial clarity. Each level is attuned to the rhythms of family life, balancing privacy with connection in an efficient and intuitive layout. The material palette—anchored by concrete and Spanish limestone—delivers both gravitas and serenity, while a central light well draws sunlight and coastal air deep into the home, countering the constraints of the cliffside site.

At every touchpoint, detail matters. Pittella’s Tura Doorware collection in Antique Bronze Stabilised, was selected for its sculptural simplicity and timeless appeal. These refined forms complement the architectural language of the residence—adding warmth, tactility, and a sense of enduring quality that aligns with the home’s robust, yet elegant material sensibility.

The result is a residence that feels grounded yet elevated—anchored by structure, softened by light, and brought to life through detail.

“In collaboration with BE Architecture, Pittella supplied a curated selection of architectural doorware for the Balgowlah project in New South Wales. The Tura handle in Antique Bronze Stabilised, complemented by matching escutcheons, door stops, hinges, and privacy sets, delivered a cohesive and elevated design solution throughout.”
