At Pittella, we are specialists in bronze finishing. Central to our approach is the Pittella protective system, developed with our partners in Italy. Applied to our bronzes to stabilise them, it preserves the developed finish and prevents the ongoing oxidation that causes tarnishing. The Character of Bronze

Understanding a Stabilised Finish
A living finish continues to respond to its surroundings. Exposure to air, moisture and handling can alter its colour, producing a patina that develops unevenly with use. For some interiors, that evolution is part of the appeal. For others, the intention is to preserve the bronze tone selected at the outset.
Our stabilised bronzes are created for that intention. Once the desired appearance has been developed, we apply the Pittella protective system to seal the surface against further oxidation. The finish does not continue to tarnish and patinate in the manner of an unsealed living finish.
Stabilisation preserves the character already present in the surface. An artisanal bronze can retain subtle tonal variation, with differences between individual pieces or production batches. That variation belongs to the finishing process; it is distinct from the progressive colour change associated with an exposed, living surface.
This combination of developed character and protection defines our approach to bronze. It allows a finish to feel established from the moment it is installed, while supporting the consistency of a carefully chosen material palette.

Bronze
Our Bronze doorware finish offers a composed, uniform expression of bronze. Its even colour gives the shape of the fitting a clear presence, making it particularly useful where the design calls for continuity across repeated details.
Created using a low-temperature baked industrial varnish process and a protective top coat, Bronze achieves its appearance through a different method from our chemically aged finishes. Its smooth surface offers a consistent alternative within the bronze palette.
Consider it against a painted door, where the outline of the handle becomes a precise detail, or alongside timber where a uniform finish can balance the natural variation in the grain. Its appeal is in that sense of visual order, with the warmth that draws people to bronze.

Satin Bronze
Satin Bronze brings a softer surface quality to doorware. A bronzing process followed by gentle brushing creates a lighter, satined appearance, with subtle variation visible through the finish.
The brushed texture gives the metal depth without a highly polished effect. It is an inviting choice for interiors built around tactile materials, where timber, stone and painted surfaces are appreciated for their individual qualities.

Timeless Bronze
Timeless Bronze has a deep, warm bronze-brown tone inspired by naturally aged metal. Developed for the Timeless collection by Salice Paolo of Italy, it brings a restrained, patinated character to solid brass doorware.
The finish is achieved through chemical bronzing. The surface is developed under controlled conditions to reach the intended tone, then sealed to stabilise its appearance. This gives the hardware the depth associated with aged bronze while preventing the ongoing patination of a living finish.
The Timeless collection pairs naturally with this treatment. Its balanced proportions and classical influences allow the bronze to settle comfortably into a heritage setting, while its restraint also suits contemporary interiors that draw on traditional materials.
Designs including Pitti, Tudor, York, Borromeo, Borbone, Deco and Fresia offer different interpretations of form within the collection. Timeless Bronze gives them a common material language, allowing the choice of handle to respond to the architecture while maintaining continuity of finish.

Antique Bronze Stabilised
Antique Bronze Stabilised has a richer, more visibly artisanal character. Its specialised chemical bronzing and ageing process develops a ready-made patina with nuanced depth. A final seal stabilises the surface and protects the appearance achieved during finishing.
Subtle differences in shade are part of its appeal. Each piece carries the variation of the process, bringing individuality to fittings that will be seen together throughout a home.
This finish lends itself to interiors where materials have a strong presence: the grain of a timber door, the irregularity of natural stone, or the detail of painted panelling. Its aged appearance can feel immediately at home among these surfaces.
The word stabilised is essential to understanding the finish. Its antique character is already established and protected, so the surface does not need to continue ageing to achieve its intended appearance.

Burnished Blaze
Burnished Blaze brings a mottled bronze character to our tapware offering. Chemical treatment develops the surface of the brass, creating tonal variation that gives each fitting a sense of depth. The finish is sealed to preserve that character as a stable, non-living surface.
In a bathroom, this can create a warm point of connection between the tapware and surrounding materials. Beside pale marble, the bronze becomes more pronounced. Against warmer stone or timber, it can form part of a closely related palette.
Burnished Blaze also offers a way to carry an interest in bronze from doorware into the bathroom. Its relationship to the other finishes should be considered through samples: each has a distinct tone and texture, and the most pleasing combination will depend on the materials and light within the space.

Choosing Bronze for an Interior
We approach finish selection as part of the wider design of a home. The same bronze can appear different against a light door and a dark one, or in daylight and evening light. The scale and shape of a fitting also affect how much of its surface is visible.

Preserving the Finish
The protective surface is an integral part of a stabilised bronze finish and should be treated with care. Follow the care instructions for the selected finish, use a soft cloth, and avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that may damage the protection. Stabilised bronze should not be polished back to bare metal.
